THE POWER MEAL FOR THE POWER DEAL... Wall St Journal
Ina’s is a fantastic little restaurant situated on the West Loop of Chicago. A quiet place to chat, socialize or hold an important meeting whilst eating a fantastic meal. Located in The Randolph Market District. The streets that feed Chicago everyday.
Ina is very proud and very honored to use local produce from local suppliers. The food couldn’t get any fresher. Everything on the menu is made from the highest quality produce and the healthiest ingredients available. After 9/11 she said that business was bad, tourism had dropped and the restaurant would not be here today if it wasnt for the fact she used local businesses. Businesses that were there for their loyal customer when it was needed. ‘If I used these big corporate companies my restaurant would have been over. they wouldn’t have thought twice about taking it away’. Thankfully it never got to that as the relationship with her local venders saved her restaurant.
The food is very unique and very interesting. My personal favourite was the ‘Scrapple’ which Ina called a ‘life saving dish’ as it dates back to when the settlers used to use all the scraps left over to make meals when they didn’t have anything else. Well this dish is definitely not made up of scraps but it uses the same traditional method using high quality ingredients.
As a thank you to Ina for the fantastic food and hospitality, customers often gift her novelty salt’n’pepper shakers. She has a huge collection from very happy customers but Ina assures me that the collection was unintentional. It just happened this way and this is the way everyone like it. She even has seasonal pairs including Christmas & Halloween. In 9 years she has only ever had two of these shakers stolen. Ina added ‘to be honest if I was sat on that table and I saw two hogs sat on motorcycles in the form of shakers I’d have taken them too’.
To this day Ina has never advertised. Word of mouth and a huge press interest is the closest thing to marketing that Ina does. That and her 2000 strong newsletter that she sends out every month. When I said send, I mean, typed, printed, enveloped, stamped and posted! Remember when we all did that?
The Food Network Magazine say that Ina’s is the best breakfast in Illinois.
Matthew Comer of Me says that Ina’s is a fantastic restaurant with some of the best food I have ever tasted and ran by a fantastic woman. Need I say more?
